This month’s wishlist is a bit early. We have some lovely treats for Eid at some amazing prices, thanks to sales still being on.
1. Prerto Earrings
These earrings are absolutely gorgeous. They would jazz up a pair of jeans or complement a Lehenga perfectly. These would come in handy not just at Eid, but at an iftar party as well. The site has some variations of these earrings so grab a pair while they are in stock.
2. Astha Narang Lehenga
The threadwork on this Lehenga is exquisite. The Lehenga is also in an amazing colour so can be worn all seasons. It can easily be worn at a wedding without any fear of upstaging the bride. Now if only we had an excuse to grab one ourselves…
3. Christian Louboutin pumps
The birthstone for July is the ruby, which is why this list has some element of red to all our picks. For us, the most iconic red is the Louboutin sole. This pair is a wardrobe staple.
4. Fendi 2jours tote
The house of Fendi always had the baguette as an iconic bag. The 2jours tote is on its way to the hall of fame. We love the combination of colours and how the turquoise interior looks against the red. The best part is its at a 30% discount.
5. Ruby and Diamond ring
What’s a celebration without bling? This Blue Nile ruby and Diamond ring is breath taking. It’s perfect as an engagement ring or as a complement to your ethnic outfit. Either way its definitely heirloom material.
So what are you waiting for? Get you Eid wardrobe all set and happy celebrating.
As we have given our wallets sufficient time to recover from our indulgences last month, we thought it was about time to get splashing the cash and spoiling ourselves again. We have gone blue this month with our finds.
1. Zara bag – This Zara bag is oh so chic. It is polished, cute and wearable whether you are 15 or 50. This bag is perfectly priced and will add the perfect touch of youthfulness to any outfit.
2. Rohita and Deepa earrings – You don’t need much apart from these earrings to jazz up your outfit. I thought of Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada when I set my eyes on these earrings. These earrings will take your outfit from day to night quite easily and if anyone reading this is planning on buying me a present, I would like these earrings along with items 1,3,4 and 5 on this list!
3. Chamee and Palak – This anarkali by Chamee and Palak is mesmerizing. The embroidery on the back is exquisite and the way the outfit falls will help anyone twirl like a princess till the end of time
4. Giuseppe Zanotti – Cage heels are in this season. These Giuseppe Zanotti heels are cage heels gone completely wild. These are perfect for a night out on town and will make you walk tall and feel amazing in any outfit they are paired with.
5. Prada Tote – And you thought we would only suggest a bag from Zara! The Prada Saffiano Lux tote is a must have bag. So go ahead, order yours in the most gorgeous of periwinkle blues and spoil yourself this month.
As we are trying to be healthy this month, it’s only fair that we round off the last few days of the month talking about our other ‘healthy’ endeavours.
My first start at my bag collection was a lot simpler than Aly’s – a trip to Paris. I knew that I wanted to indulge myself and build a collection that I could baby and love for years to come. And obviously a trip to Paris a few months after I started working meant there was no better place to kick off my collection. I didn’t know which brand or which bag I wanted though. After having researched prices for a while I narrowed it down to Louis Vuitton and Gucci as both brands had (at the time) iconic bags under the £500 price point.
We spent the first 2 days of our trip in Paris frolicking around town, taking in the sites. We covered off everything from the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower (lights and all) to a walk through the Jardines des Tuileries and a view of the city from the Sacré-Cœur. We stayed in a small chain hotel close to the Arc and used the metro to travel everywhere. We of course paid homage to the Mona Lisa and the designers on Avenue George V.
On the last day, it was just my husband and me. We popped into Gucci, Dior and Louis Vuitton and I was completely confused about which bag I wanted. So we decided to take a break and do what couples in Paris do – walk around town. We sat down to have some lunch at a delightful café and then walked some more to get us some crème brulee. Having suitably stuffed myself, we walked back to Louis Vuitton . Being stuffed to the brim helped narrow the decision to go the closest store which was Louis Vuitton.
The shop on Avenue George V was unbelievably crowded. People were walking in and out with huge shopping bags. We wandered around the store and I narrowed down the choice to a Blue Epi PM Alma and a Speedy 25 in Damier Ebene. A delightful SA called – yep, Pierre came around and showed me both bags. I twirled around with both in my arm hoping the mirror would make my decision easier. After uhm-ing and ah-ing over both, I settled on the Speedy 25.
It is the perfect size to run about town in and holds a lot more stuff than one can imagine. It’s absolutely perfect for the rainy UK weather as this is the one bag I don’t have to be excessively careful about. While I now have a few more bags, I still love my Speedy the most.
It’s National Handbag Day!! This momentous day of the year was created by the folks at Purse Blog. Aly and I thought it was a great reason to celebrate our love for bags.
We thought long and hard about the bags we absolutely want in our closets some day. Each of these bags we would cherish and remember the exact moment we got to hold one and and we have colour and leather preferences all sorted out. If only the folks who run the lottery would listen, we would be sorted!
5. Louis Vuitton Speedy / Neverfull (anything in the iconic canvas print really)
The Speedy and Neverfull are two of the most iconic and timeless bag designs and have spawned hundreds of spin offs from all brands big and small. The monogram canvas is amazingly hardwearing and is perfect for carrying out even when the weather is horrible. The canvas print is probably one of the most copied designs and the designers at the house of LV reinvent these bags on quite a regular basis. These bags are priced at £550 for a Speedy 25 and £670 for a PM Neverfull.
Louis Vuitton is also one of the only high fashion brands to embrace e – commerce in a big way and you can get your icon at their website – http://uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/homepage
4. Fendi Baguette
This bag literally brought Fendi out of the doldrums they were in. SJP and the fabulous Sex and the City ladies ensured that this bag became one of the biggest must closet must haves all inspired by pop culture. Who can forget that Samantha actually bought herself a fake one of these?
Fendi today comes up with some really innovative prints and designs, making the baguette bag stay truly timeless. The starting price is around £850 and the price increases significantly based on material and design. There is a limited selection available online at Barneys, Harrods, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales and Selfridges, although for the choicest bags you would need to step into a boutique.
3. Lady Dior
There are few bags that make you fall in love and the Lady Dior is undoubtedly one of those bags. Created for Lady Diana, the bag is formal when it needs be, fun and quirky at times and the perfect complement to any outfit anytime. There is an absolute plethora of designs for the Lady Dior, but these are all limited edition to maintain the exclusivity of the bag. This bag is also rarely copied, so if you see someone carrying one, it is more likely than not going to be the real deal.
The bag comes in three sizes with prices starting at £2100 for the smallest variant in a single colour. You can buy this bag only at Dior boutiques worldwide.
2. Chanel Flap
This bag is probably the second most copied bag after the LV Speedy. If you love bags, you have definitely come across a fake version of a Chanel flap or even own one. The caviar leather that Chanel uses is some of the most hardwearing in the market place today. People have famously used their bags every day for 15 years making it amazing return on investment. Given the price increases the brand has on their goods, it most definitely is a good investment piece as well.
Prices for leather variants start at £2800. Chanel does advertise prices and variants on their website although you cannot purchase them online. The service at their boutiques is apparently amazing, so hot footing here is not really the worst of ideas.
1. Hermes Birkin
And finally the Birkin. This bag does not need any introduction. Created for iconic actress Jane Birkin, this namesake bag is every fashionista’s dream come true. Hermes allow you a wide variety of leather and colour choices, so each bag is unique to its owner.
These are only available at Hermes boutiques and for the rarest combinations of colour and leather there can be a long waiting time (sometimes up to 3 years). The price starts at £10,000 for a basic calf leather bag in one of their base colours and can be upwards of £120,000 for exotics.
We grappled a lot with this list and we know it doesn’t feature some icons like the Gucci Boston or Stirrup bags or the Proenza Schouler PS1 or the Balenciaga Motorcycle bags, but if we had all the money in the world, these are the five that we would buy first.
Which bag on this list do you want? Or is yours not on here? Celebrate today and leave a shout out to your favourite bag of all time.
In our first ever post published by Divaly, Vasudha and I mentioned how we bonded over our first expensive purchase – a Louis Vuitton bag. Here’s my part of the story, to be followed by V.
I will never forget the day I got my first Louis Vuitton bag. It was a month before my 24th birthday. My mum and I were having a chat and she tells me very nonchalantly, “I would like to buy your birthday gift before you go on holiday, but I’m not going to tell you what it is. I will take you there directly”. This of course piqued my interest and left the curious cat in me very suspicious.
We go to Bur Juman centre, a mall here in Dubai and after dinner we walk towards the Louis Vuitton store and I stare at mum incredulously, with a what’s going on here look? I’m not even dressed right.
We walk into the store and she says, “I know you have always wanted one, even though I don’t see the fuss since everyone has one (MUMS I tell you!!) but Happy Birthday”.
I was so stunned and overwhelmed at the same time and could barely contain my excitement. I was a like a little girl let loose in a candy store. We started going through many of the bags and my first natural choice was to look at the Neverful, a classic bag. My mums response however was, “There’s no way I’m spending this much money on a bag that doesn’t have a zip!!!”. I’m pretty sure some of you are nodding your head in agreement haha :).
After browsing through the catalogues, we finally settled on Totally– a medium sized tote, in the classic monogram design. This was perfect to suit my style, an off shoulder bag with pockets outside as well as in. Great for everyday use!
King Louis as it is proudly called is used rather sparingly because it’s so precious to me.
Thank you Mama for the bestest present ever. I love you 🙂
One of my most vivid shoe memories is a collective gasp from the entire female audience at the theatre watching Sex and the City 2 as the cameras panned in on the most gorgeous shimmery golden Louboutins worn by Carrie Bradshaw. I fell in love again only to notice my first love shaking his head in the next seat wondering why the ladies in the theatre were going gaga for red soles.
I spent the most of my free time after the movie trying it figure out how I could get my hands on a pair. The price tag somehow didn’t match up with my student budget even if I only had soup for the rest of the year! I let go and continued on having discovered Asos and sample sale websites.
Having seen the first signs of my love for leather ( he hasn’t lost the chance to remind me I’m a vegetarian), he surprised me with an ‘I missed you over the hols’ pair of gorgeous Michael Kors T straps. More of those later I promise. All mention of shoes and anything was soon forgotten in the craziness that is student life. Nearer my birthday however, I started having a think about what I would like for a present. My now husband asked me for a list and I sent him a link to a Paparazzi magazine clutch. He also for some reason asked me whether I liked shoes better or bags. At that point, consumed by red soles I was in crazy stupid love with shoes. I reminded him of the SATC pair and said those were my dream.
A month on all was forgotten and close to my birthday he said he would be getting me the clutch so I could wear it with my outfit for the concert we were going to on the night of my birthday. We were getting ready at my aunt’s place and heading off together. While there he asked me when I wanted my presents. I said anytime, although I needed the clutch so I could put my things in. He said OK, but what about the other presents. That’s when I realised he said presents – with an ‘s’. I asked him what else he bought me with a very suspicious look. He said shoes. I said o cool. But I know what I’m wearing tonight. He said fine and handed me a box with all the nonchalance that only a man handling shoes he doesn’t understand could muster.
Somehow, the rest is a blur. I have vague recollections of prancing around like a mad idiot going my precious. That was the point I knew, this was one affair that was never going to end.
It all started with our first expensive purchase, a Louis Vuitton bag. That’s when we both realized we were both closeted or not so closeted fashion followers. This blog is a product of a long time of discussing and wanting to do something in fashion and beauty and an outlet for us to come out of our overflowing closets.
The name ‘Divaly’ came about after a long list of nonsensical names and we just said hey why can’t we two self-proclaimed divas come up with anything good?! So that’s how the name came about a conglomeration of the two divas, Vasudha and Alyssia ha ha!
Divaly is in one line – The colours of fashion lighting up our lives.
A bit more about each of us –
I, Vasudha am currently based in the UK with my husband. An analyst by profession, fashion to me is something that I begin and end my day with. I like keeping track of what’s in and what’s not, who is creating what. Ally says I have an opinion on anything fashion related under the sun and that I am in love with all things unique, glamourous and beautiful.
I, Alyssia am a customer relations and marketing exec by profession and a lot more casual in my fashion but love the occasional dress up. Being on the plus side, I believe that today there’s a lot more choice out there and you can be plus size and dress king size too. V feels I am more passionate about fashion for all than anyone she has met and know more about make up than she ever will. She knows my secret obsession is with all things one of a kind, elegant and accessible.
As a team, we were schoolmates in Dubai, UAE and the oddest thing is we barely knew one another! A chance meeting in Bombay a couple of years ago got us talking nineteen to the dozen and there hasn’t been a day we haven’t spoken to each other since.
The two of us wear and follow mostly western fashion but keep in touch with our Indian roots. We would like to talk about anything and everything fashion and beauty related under the sun from high street to high end. We hope you enjoy our journey with us.
